Derrek is a registered psychologist who is dedicated to supporting individuals in overcoming distress, meeting their emotional needs and living as their authentic selves. 

Derrek is available Monday-Friday and after hours.

Derrek welcomes all clients regardless of cultural background, gender identity, or sexual orientation.


Derrek is committed to supporting clients make sense of, work through, and overcome traumatic experiences. He is experienced in working with:

  • Military personnel and Veterans

  • Exploration of gender & sexual diversity in the LGBTQIAP+ community

  • Complex trauma & PTSD

  • Adjustment difficulties

  • Interpersonal, family and relationship difficulties

  • Alcohol & substance addiction including pornography

  • Eating disorders, including emotional and binge eating

  • Anxiety & Depression

Derrek is passionate about working with other members of the LGBTQIA+ community and is presently in the process of publishing several papers exploring key issues related to the LGBTQIA+ community, including sexual minority stresses, identity integration, internalised sexual prejudice, stigma, and post-sex dysphoria.


Derrek is an ex-serving defence force member and as such is committed to helping other current and ex-serving members with military-related trauma, relationship difficulties, and the transitional complexities of fitting back into civilian life after service.


Derrek firmly believes that compassion, safety, and understanding within the therapeutic space is at the very core healing. He takes an integrative approach to therapy that is informed by attachment theory and psychodynamic psychotherapy. His therapy style includes a range of evidenced-based interventions including:

  • Schema Therapy

  • Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT)

  • Prolonged Exposure Therapy

  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
